Storytelling for Innocence Organizations (2018)

Storytelling can change hearts and minds. It can help elicit empathy, foment action, and shape the way people see the world. And it can create new narratives about the criminal justice system. In our efforts to build a worldwide movement to end wrongful conviction, storytelling is an essential tool and innocence organizations are uniquely positioned to tell stories that can contribute to the change we want to see. Given that storytelling can be so powerful, we have a responsibility to wield that power thoughtfully. The choices around which stories we tell, who tells them, and how they are told have a big impact on power dynamics both internally and out in the world. But, if you can effectively harness the power of storytelling, you will be a more successful fundraiser, advocate, litigator, ambassador, and change- maker. This resource responds to questions Network Members have raised around things such as: what questions to ask for a great client interview, whether it’s possible to talk about open cases and what things to consider, and how to partner with your clients in a respectful way to be able to tell the stories that connect donors and supporters to our cause.  Click here to access Storytelling for Innocence...
